NetworkVu

The NetworkVu application has been developed for Network Operations to improve monitoring and isolation capabilities beyond the reach of traditional “network-centric” management systems. [ Use Case ]

The network dashboard offers customized views into service performance by neighborhood, region, channel, head end, and other categories.

NetworkVu will also accelerate and de-risk service introductions and upgrades (see Partner Solutions for more information).

Operations are typically challenged by “soft failures”, which often occur without setting off any alarms. Instead, operators only learn of these “silent” problems if a customer service agent or tester recognizes a trend or pattern. xVu correlation rules will collect specific data elements and can identify many of these difficult-to-isolate “silent” problems. The correlation templates are continuously updated by xVu and distributed to Mariner’s clients through the maintenance program.

Further features offered by xVu:

  • Extends the traditional “network-centric” monitoring to include ‘real time’ service monitoring of the customer experience
  • Proactively isolates service-affecting issues; HD vs. SD channels, region vs. neighborhood vs. city, cable vs. JWI vs. loop, home network vs. individual set-top box, etc.
  • Collects, records and analyzes “transient” errors, with short-term trending reports
  • Deploys with confidence, shorten trial cycles with focused diagnostics to monitor the impact of upgrades and configuration changes
  • Objectively assesses the consumer experience
  • Integrates with existing investment in probes, EMS, and OSS/BSS using web services or SNMP technologies (quickly and simply with xVu integration tools)
  • Generates actionable alarms to escalation systems via XML, SNMP or SMTP
  • Fixes network element configuration issues (e.g.: DSL Port Settings, DHCP, STB reboots, channel profiles)

Contributing to the Business:

  • Improve service levels and reduce MTTR
  • Accelerate problem isolation and diagnostic time
  • Eliminate escalating problems and uncover costly "silent failures"
  • Accelerate time to market
  • Reduced vendor support costs; diagnostic reporting by equipment type
