Gerry Pond Receives Distinguished Honour at the Startup Canada Atlantic Awards in Halifax

Halifax, Nova Scotia – On May 20, 2014, Gerry Pond, co-founder of Mariner Partners and East Valley Ventures, was awarded the esteemed Wolf Blass Lifetime Achievement Award for Atlantic Canada at theStartup Canada Atlantic Awards in Halifax, an event which brought together and celebrated those leading the way for Atlantic Canada’s entrepreneurs.

Pond has made a mission of investing his time and resources in supporting education and policy that advances entrepreneurship. From the Wallace McCain Institute, the New Brunswick Business Council, the Pond-Deshpande Centre at UNB, Propel ICT / Launch 36, to name a few, Pond’s influence and contributions are shifting the region’s economic landscape by supporting those willing to take the entrepreneurial plunge within the Atlantic region.

Startup Canada, as the voice of entrepreneurs, leads Canada’s grassroots effort to build a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem that will fuel economic prosperity. Its mission is to make Canada the best place in the world to start and grow a business. It recognizes that starting and successfully growing a company can be difficult and that entrepreneurs need a variety of elements to be successful including mentorship, encouragement, talented people, funding and a network of contacts.

The Startup Canada Awards celebrate and distinguish the individuals, communities and institutions in Canada that have demonstrated innovation, excellence, outstanding achievement and impact in advancing Canadian entrepreneurship.

The objectives of the awards are to:

  • Celebrate those working to advance entrepreneurship in Canada;
  • Increase awareness of the importance of strengthening Canada’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and culture; and,
  • Elevate the efforts and elevate ambitions of the Canadian entrepreneurship community.

Pond and his fellow Startup Canada Atlantic Awards recipients will then move on to the next round of votes for the Startup Canada Awards being held on June 12, 2014 at the CN Tower in Toronto, where winners will have been chosen by the general public. The Canadian public are invited to submit their votes online by5.00pm PST on May 23rd for the 2014 Startup Canada Awards in recognition of outstanding leadership and impact in advancing entrepreneurship
